Any questions as you review for the test?

Please post them here as a comment.

Please focus on questions that lead to knowledge, as opposed to questions in the form of "Will X topic be on the test?"

What does Gilgamesh describe about the civilization of the time?

In class can we have more of a discussion on the different civilizations we have been learning about?

Is the BOH and Enkidu dying significant in Gilgamesh, or is it more of the Cuneiform, tablets, and what the story was getting across more important to know? Just curious as i am re reading

Were there any major cities in Egypt? If so, what were they?

Sam -- you should know both about the story of Gilgamesh (the basic plot and the big characters) and the context of the story -- that it was written on cuneiform tablets and what it tells us about life in Mesopotamia back then.

Laura -- Three big cities in ancient Egypt were Memphis, Amarna, and Thebes (See the map on p. 72). Memphis was mentioned on p. 87, in connection with Menes, who united Upper and Lower Egypt and made Memphis his capital. The only city you would be responsible for on this test would be Memphis.

For the Jared Diamond essay question, how will you want us to cite what we write? We obviously can't name specific page numbers without the article there, but should we put "this is from JD, this is from the book" on the test?

what exactly were the introductory materials?

Katelyn -- you don't need to cite on a test.

Ben -- in class I said that for this test you need to know only the modern population statistics (world and US) and how many people in the world are living on less than $2 per day.

I know today in class we reviewed the world population, but I do not know how many people are specifically in the US or how many people are living on less than $2 a day.

If there was a question about hunter gather vs farming would it be like was farming a mistake and have a yes or no answer, or would it be something like in your own opinion is farming a mistake, explain your reasoning

what exactly do we need to know about about your introduction page

Do we need to know about definitions of words such as "cataracts" or "capricious". Also do we have to know the specifics about each river civilization?
